Curtain up on Loch
A Night of Opera & Song
On Saturday 21st April the historic Loch Public Hall was transformed into an opera house for the event. Guests were warmly welcomed by members of Loch CFA as they were serenaded into the venue by two young musicians from Arawata playing violin. Complimentary drinks were served before the concert began and guests marvelled at the beautiful flowers that had been arranged so magnificently by Yvonne McAlpine of Nyora. Visitors to Loch for the evening had come from interstate and from far away places across Victoria including Warrnambool, Melbourne, Berwick, La Trobe Valley, Phillip Island and South Gippsland.
At 8pm the Master of Ceremonies, Dr. Joe Talia began Act 1 with some light hearted anecdotes with references to beautiful Loch and his visit to the Royal Hotel earlier that evening. Dr. Talia then introduced Mary-Louise Santa (Soprano) who sang Brinsdisi La Traviata by Verdi. One time resident of this area Lawrence Allen (Tenor) was next to perform with a magnificent rendition of Puccini's Nessum Dorma Turandot. Lynlee Williams (Mezzo Soprano) then sang L'amour est un oiseau rebelle - Habanera - Carmen by Bizet and this was followed by Erich Fackert (Tenor) singing Dein ist mein ganzes Herz by Lehar. Act 1 concluded with the 10th item for the night, a duet by Mary-Louise Santa and Erich Fackert singing Some Enchanted Evening by R.Rogers.
